Cheapie But Goodie Oils For Natural Hair

Moisturizing is the best thing you can ever do to your tresses. Moisture helps soften our hair and most importantly it reduces breakage and allows you to grow your hair long and healthy because your ends won't be breaking faster than your hair is growing. However you can moisturise all you like but if you are not sealing all that moisture with an oil , then you are just wasting your time. Oils are super important in a healthy hair journey. I have five favourite oil combinations that you can use if you are not a mixtress and you want to reap the benefits of the expensive oils but at half the price. Olive Miracle By African Pride If you want heaven in a bottle filled with nutrients and different types of oils you can buy olive miracle by African pride.  I don't like the smell but it can get the job done. I like to mask the smell with one of my favourite essential oils and I use it to seal in the moisture. This mixture has oils from the basic Olive Oil to the s

Reclaim Thy Edges !

Hey kinks and coils 💜 Since I have to be transparent here's what I wanted to share for the longest time! When I had a protective style on I wanted everything to look sleek and neat because it had to last me for a very long time but I  have done a bit of research and now I know better . My edges were laid for the Gods all day , everyday and I didn't realize that my hair line was receding. I am planning to bring my edges back by January because walking around edges-less (if that's even a word ) is not cute. It's August so I am going to be consistent with the following method. I am going to use the holy grail for almost every natural.  C A S T O R   O I L I bought the clear castor oil because it is cheaper and easily accessible. Castor Oil contains natural compounds that promote hair growth. A large percentage of castor oil contains Ricinoleic acid , one of the essential amino acids required by the human body. It's an Omega-9 fatty acid t

Cheapie But Goodie Cleansers For Natural Hair

I know it's not always easy and some months feel like they are longer and waiting for pay day feels like a decade. I will provide you with cleansers that are cheap / affordable but can still get the job done. You don't have to spend a crazy amount of money to have healthy hair. Clays I remember being skeptical about using clays in my hair becuase I thought it just would not work however , I was amazed at how much gunk was coming out of my hair when I was rinsing out the clay. I had run out of shampoo and I didn't want to co-wash because conditioner makes my scalp itchy so I used Bentonite clay. I made it watery and used it as a cleanser , it defined my coils and it was perfect base for a wash and go. I buy my Bentonite Clay at Dischem by Nature's Choice  for R36.95. You can also try out Rhassaul clay. African Black Soap I am still going gaga over this. African black soap made my hair baby soft. I still can't get over it. I make it

Why I Had To Cut My Natural Hair

Image
I cut my hair. Yeah I did. I underestimated the power of trims and how beneficial they are. I always rocked a gigantic fro with the side part it was huge and I always got second looks and was asked "is that your hair? " I would have included pictures if it was cute but it wasn't cute because my ends were crying for help and they were damaged af.  However I thought I'd cut them but I lost my shears and that was just discouraging and I was always super busy going to the gym and so on. On Thursday I flat twisted my hair with difficulty and I kept reminding myself to make time to trim my hair and then on  Friday I unravelled the twists and I had a terrible twist out and the damage was there in full effect. I finally bought shears on Tuesday and thank Lord I finally trimmed my hair. I actually cut my hair because my hair was super damaged , I had A LOT of single strand knots and my ends just didn't retain any moisture , they were porous , my hair woul

Basics For Newbie Naturalistas

Hey kinks and coils 💜 So you probably big chopped a week ago and you are in a bind and don't know what to do. You hear new terms like deep conditioner and so and protein treatments and you just confused , trust me I have been there when I was relaxed the only person who took care of my hair was my hairdresser and I didn't deep condition and etc. And when I came back to natural 5 years ago I had to learn a lot. And I know you looking at the title and thinking "how can someone be a newbie naturalista ? Because we were all natural once" I wrote the title to make it easier for someone who just big chopped and doesn't know how to incorporate healthy hair practices in their regimen.  Trim Your Hair  I made this the first point because it probably is the most important before cleansing your hair. Do not be like me and delay your trims  because you want to keep your length. I do have a post here and basically its about how I keep my length after tr
