Thoughts : Texture Discrimination In The Natural Hair Community

Oh my. This has to be the worst. I feel that as naturalistas we can never find inner peace. We are discriminated in our  workplaces , in schools and then when we think we finally get a break from all that discrimination and try to cool off in the natural hair community we are discriminated , AGAIN! Can we get a break ? We get this image of these ladies and gents with loose curls or waves as if the natural hair only consists of one hair type/texture. That is why it is called a "community" it consists of all types of different hair textures , thick , thin and etc. So showing a particular texture of hair and promoting it , what does it say about some of us with tightly coiled natural hair ? Are we are not part of this community because of what reason ? Is our hair is just not worth all the glory or the celebration? There are tons of natural celebrities in South Africa but the media only showcases pictures of celebrities' with curly natural hair. It's ac

Why You Should Be Striving For HEALTHY Natural Hair.

Hey kinks and coils 💜 Do you length check every month ? Well , what if I told you that you can do length checks until judgement day but if that hair is not healthy then that shouldn't be length that you should be claiming anyway. Okay , okay . Let me stop acting like my hair was healthier than everything on Earth. I had to experience hair drama to realize that it is not really about the length. There are certain things that you can do to help maintain your hair , I am not going to say "bring back your hair to life" because it is dead anyway. Are length checks unnecessary? No , keep doing you. But I think with healthy hair you are guaranteed that your hair will be long because your ends won't be breaking off faster than your hair is growing , you wil be retaining the moisture and with a good wash day routine you will reap the full benefits of the products you use on wash day. I hope you know that you should be applying Deep Conditioners on clean hair , rig

Do You Hate Your 4C Natural Hair ?

Image
There are a lot of people who hate their 4c hair and I can never understand why! People uploading  negative videos about their 4c natural hair , why fam? Did you want looser curls or waves ? I think when most of us big chopped and went back to natural hair , we had a goal to embrace our true selves in our natural state. So if that 3c or 2c hair is not what is naturally yours / grows out of your scalp then why don't you embrace the one that was meant FOR YOU ? Some of the popular comments I have read are , "it takes time for it to grow" , "it has no curl pattern" and the most popular one " it's nappy I really can't do anything with it" and maaybe if you did what worked for you , you wouldn't be having all these "problems" . I watch my favourite 4 c Youtubers , when I have time of course , and their hair is the bomb.com because they do what WORKS for THEM. Your hair just doesn't deserve all this hate fam. It&

Update : My HEALTH and CONFIDENCE journey.

Hey kinks and coils 💜 I have a TWA now and I didn't even upload an update , how rude ! Anyhow I have mentioned in a previous post  that it is liberating. I am now on a health and confidence journey. My hair thrives when it is moisturized and left alone. I don't want to stretch it because I love seeing my little coils pop up whenever I moisturise. I don't want to be self conscious whenever my hair is all coiled up and short  if I start feeling self conscious about my TWA I will cut my hair again untill I become comfortable in every stage I am in my journey. I love going to bed and not retwisting. Woooo heaven 😊. And waking up and spritzing my hair and sealing in the moisture and then I am OUT no fluffing , no  piking nah nah.. It's the ultimate wash and go.  I am a lazy natural so I think I will always cut my hair and rock a cute little TWA . However I am not going to lie when I big chopped it wasn't all peaches and cream , I was a bit self consci

My Favourite Essential Oils For Natural Hair

Image
Hey kinks and coils 💜 Ever since I went natural on December 9 2011. Oils and water have been my best friends and when I detangled my locs , essential oils are my absolute favorite and I like to experiment with them. I dont have a crazy amount of oils just enough to suit my hair needs , cater to my problem areas and help me flourish out in these streets . L A V E N D A R   O I L My baby , my everything. Lavendar oil is bae. Literally. Smells amazing and whenever I'm in a bind about this journey that I am currently on I just massage it on my wrists and pop on Solange's album take a whiff  and relax. Lavender Oil helps nourish the hair and moisturize the scalp and hair. My shea butter mix smells like lavendar and sometimes I put a few drops of Lavendar in my castor oil to mask that awful smell castor oil has. P E P P E R M I N T   O I L I hope Peppermint oil helps bring  back my edges because they decided to take a vacation. I do have a p
