Thoughts : Texture Discrimination In The Natural Hair Community

Oh my.

This has to be the worst.

I feel that as naturalistas we can never find inner peace. We are discriminated in our  workplaces , in schools and then when we think we finally get a break from all that discrimination and try to cool off in the natural hair community we are discriminated , AGAIN!

Can we get a break ?

We get this image of these ladies and gents with loose curls or waves as if the natural hair only consists of one hair type/texture. That is why it is called a "community" it consists of all types of different hair textures , thick , thin and etc.

So showing a particular texture of hair and promoting it , what does it say about some of us with tightly coiled natural hair ?

Are we are not part of this community because of what reason ?

Is our hair is just not worth all the glory or the celebration? There are tons of natural celebrities in South Africa but the media only showcases pictures of celebrities' with curly natural hair.

It's actually kind of sickening because there is an image of "natural" that is sold to the masses and then you find some people who go back to natural hair because they think they are going to have looser curls or waves and when they big chop they find out that they have 4c and then upload all this crap on Youtube "I hate my 4c" blah blah blah 😒 .

I ask for inclusion , It really isn't too much to ask for .

Let's include people living with albinism , people with thin natural hair , people who have vitiligo and so on.

Everyone was so hyped and angry when they saw the Shea Moisture advert and it didn't include black people which I think is a good thing and I see it as a wake up call because now we know how people living with albinism feel , now we know how people who have vitiligo feel when they turn on TV and they don't see people who look like them.

It really isn't too much to ask for . The black race is beautiful .  We are beautiful in our different hair types and textures , different shades of melanin , our languages and so much more. We can't push a certain standard or "norm" of beauty . There are 7.442billion people in the world so why can't there be 7.442billion types of beauty?.

And can we please stop acting like locs don't exist ?
