DIY Flaxseed/Linseed Gel For Natural Hair

Image
Hey kinks and coils 💜 Today on this beautiful day I am doing my Flaxseed / Linseed Gel for my kinky coily 4b/4c short natural hair . I am not a huge fan of long posts so let's just get started. You will need : 1 Cup Flaxseed / Linseeds . You can use the golden or the brown ones , I have used both and and didn't notice a difference. However after I did a bit of research I found out that the brown linseeds / flaxseeds are higher in omega 3 fatty acids. I bought my flaxseed at Checkers and The Farmers Market. Tablespoon 2 cups Of warm water Strainer Jar Essential Oil (optional) Directions :  Put the stove on medium heat and pour 2 cups of water and a cup of flaxseeds in the pot. Increase the stove's heat to the highest tempreture and start stirring. When a white sticky layer is formed on the top and the mixture is much thicker than before turn off the stove and stir untill the mixture is WARM. When your mixture i...

Using Grease On My Natural Hair

Image
Hey kinks and coils 💜 Grease was never an option for me because it includes all kinds of ingredients that I am not familiar with. I'm more comfortable with using natural products because they are safe , most of the time. And I know exactly what is inside of the product. My hair was never shiny , I remember after detangling my locs I would saturate my loose natural hair with oils because I was trying to make it super shiny and it would always look dull and it would break because like a dummy I used oils to "moisturise" my hair and didn't know about the LOC/LCO method. And then I trimmed my hair and made a vow to take care of my hair. I was going through instagram and saw a post by wolfgang lisborg that you can read about here  he uploaded a video on Instagram about grease. I was skeptical and my shea butter mix was finished and then I finally decided to just do it because my hair was breaking like crazy because it was always dry. I spritzed water o...

So I Finally Used AVJ On My Natural Hair. . .

Image
Hey kinks and coils 💜 After detangling my locs , there were certain Youtubers that I didn't watch because the products they used were just too extra for me , for example : aloe vera juice Almost every naturalista on Youtube was recommending Aloe Vera Juice for dry natural hair . And a week ago I was in Dischem at Maponya Mall and I saw this  I figured I should just try it out and stop being so stubborn , when I bought it I was a bit skeptical and felt a bit stupid and kept asking myself "why are you buying this when you can always use water" I shaked off the negativaty and when I arrived home I took my spritzer bottle poured half water and aloe vera spritzed it all over my hair and . . .                  O     M       G My hair has never felt this hydrated even when I was using warm water because I have low porosity hair. My hair feels so soft it's super shiny and my f...

Removing Build Up In Locs

Image
Hey kinks and coils 💜 When I was a newbie loc'er 5 years ago I used to apply shea butter on my locs ( mistake #1 ) it was super creamy and thick and I had buildup on every loc. I didn't realize that when moisturising locs it is more beneficial to use light weight products. I know there are newbie loc'ers out there who are in a bind and see all kinds of white things in their hair and can't understand what it is and what it is doing there. Now there is a difference between build up and lint. Buildup In Locs You can read about lint in locs  here . These are two super easy methods that I used to get rid of build up in my locs Apple Cide Vinegar. Yes , ACV smells awful but it helps , A LOT. After washing my locs I spritzed ACV on my locs and let it sit for a few minutes and then I rinsed it. Your locs are going to be dry because ACV dries our hair out. When you do this make sure your hair is freshly washed. Bentonite Clay Not only is this amazing...

Dreadlock Theft In South Africa . . .

Image
Yeah , its a real thing. I had locs for 5 years and was always warned by my loctician to always wear a head scarf when travelling to the city because of Loc theft. I did'nt think he was serious and I always laughed it off.  And thank laaaaaaaawd it didnt happen to me. I watched a show called Checkpoint (my favorite) and they were interviewing some loc theft victims and since I know some people who read my blog don't live in South Africa and some dont have television , I took the liberty of linking the video below. eNCA Checkpoint Youtube | Cut And Run Or you can watch the repeat on Thursday at 10:00am  on eTV 6 July 2017 And the DSTV channel is 194 Wear That Crown With Pride 👑 Karabo xx

How To Stretch Your Natural Hair WITHOUT Heat

Image
Hey kinks and coils 💜 Happy New Month 😊 Shrinkage is probably the bane of most naturals however it can tell us whether our hair is healthy or not. Hair shrinkage is when our hair gradually loses its normal length when it is wet. Hair shrinkage is a huge part in the natural hair journey so it's essential you know what to do to do in managing your coils and kinks in their shrunken state. There are various methods you can use to stretch your natural hair WITHOUT heat. TWISTS AND BRAIDS After your wash routine in the shower put your hair in big braids or twist. When your hair is dry unravel the braids or twists and your hair will be stretched. CURLFORMERS Use curlformers on wet hair. When your hair is dry carefully remove the curlformers and not only will your hair be streched but your curls will be popping. BANTU KNOT OUTS If you want your hair to be streched and curly but don't have curlformers / rods you can do a Bantu knot out. Divide your hair into small ...
